Paco Rabanne, the celebrated perfume and fashion designer, has died at the age of 88.

His death was confirmed on Twitter by House of Paco Rabanne on Friday.

Rabanne was said to have died in his home in France.

The Spanish-born creative designer was described as  a “visionary designer among the most seminal fashion figures of the 20th century.”

“The House of Paco Rabanne wishes to honour our visionary designer and founder who passed away today at the age of 88. Among the most seminal fashion figures of the 20th century, his legacy will remain a constant source of inspiration,” the tweet reads.

Puig, the parent company for his brands, in an Instagram post, also defined him as a “revolutionary designer who radicalised the vision of fashion.”

“It is with profound sadness that Puig announces the passing of M. Paco Rabanne at 88 years years old,” it reads.

“Mr. Rabanne has played an important part in our history. As a revolutionary designer, he has marked generations with his radical vision of fashion and his legacy will live on.”

Marc Puig, chairman and chief executive officer of Puig, said: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Paco Rabanne,”

He added that “he will remain an important source of inspiration for the Puig fashion and fragrance teams, who continuously work together to express Mr. Paco Rabanne’s radically modern codes. I extend my sincere condolences to his family and to those who have known him.”

Rabann was born as Francisco Rabaneda y Cuervo in the Spanish Basque town of Pasaia on February 18, 1934.

He was famous for his perfumes sold worldwide and his metallic, space-age fashions.
