Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp have been hit with a three-hour outage which prevents some users from downloading or sending images and audio.

While text seems to be working, there are complaints from users in some parts of the world that they are unable to share or download photos, videos and voice messages.

Complaints particularly came from the UK, Nigeria and South America, according to Down Detector, the outage tracking website.

Facebook, which owns the three apps, also confirmed that it was aware of the issue and was “working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible”.

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps. We’re sorry for the trouble and are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible,” it wrote on Twitter.

The reason for the outage remains, however, unknown.

Twitter, which is not known for these types of outages, is where a lot of “frustrated” users have taken to in order to register their dissapointment.

Four months ago, Facebook and Instagram endured their longest period of disruption ever, while WhatsApp experienced an outage in April.
