If successful, Bayigo’s attempt would surpass several existing records, including:

Spain’s Pablo Fernandez who holds the GWR for the longest distance ocean swim, covering 250 km (155.34 miles) from July 19-20, 2021, in Miami, Florida, US.

Nejib Belhedi, a Tunisian, who holds the world record for the longest duration swimming in the open sea under World Open Water Swimming Association regulations.

He swam from September 15 to 18, 2018 and his record currently stands at 76 hours 30 minutes.

Nejib swam approximately 120 kilometres (75 miles) across Tunisia’s Gulf of Gabès in the Mediterranean Sea between Sfax on the mainland and the island of Djerba.

Veljko Rogošić, a Croatian, also holds another world record for the longest distance swimming in the open ocean.

He swam 225 kilometres (139.8 miles) across the Adriatic Sea from Grado to Riccione in Italy from 29-31 in August 2006.
