Charles Awurum, the Nollywood actor, has called on Nigerians to ensure they participate in the 2023 general election.
Next year’s election has continued to dominate discussions in several quarters as the country seeks to elect President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.
In a video shared via his Instagram page, the film star said Nigerians must do away with religious and tribal sentiments ahead of the much-awaited poll.
Awurum said voting in 2023 is a “must” for every eligible Nigerians, adding that “God will punish” those who fail to participate in the election.
According to him, participation in the election has become imperative for every citizen so as to elect leaders capable of addressing the challenges confronting the country.
“Make una dey there make politicians dey use religion and tribalism dey kill una. Anybody wey no vote this time, devil go punish am, God go punish am, everything wey dey this world go punish am. You must vote,” he said in Pidgin English.
“God will send thunder we carry gonorrhea fire you. Una dey craze? The youth don come out say, yes, we must take our country back, so everyone should join their hands and vote.
“Go and vote ooo! We should stop the trend of seeing the country move from top to bottom. We must vote.”
Awurum has been in the news on a few occasions over his comments on happenings in the country’s political landscape.
In 2020, he had condemned the issues of vandalism and looting of various businesses and organisations by hoodlums amid the #EndSARS protest.
