Ndlovu told BBC that Prudence, who was at the venue of the race, accepted his proposal.

The athlete also revealed that they started dating at the beginning of this year. He added that they plan on getting married in 2023.

Ndlovu joined athletes participating in the 2022 edition of the Comrades Marathon which started on Sunday.

The race is held annually in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

It is considered the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon race. The race is usually between the “up” run (87 km) starting from Durban and the “down” run (now 90.184 km) starting from Pietermaritzburg.

His rare action has continued to elicit reactions on social media, particularly on Twitter.

“Ooh Prudence! Just marry Joseph Ndlovu. What a great proposal,” a user wrote.

“As a Country, we deserve the answer to the proposal. Cameraman, please seek out Prudence. We are invested now. #ComradesMarathon2022,” another user wrote.
