An ex-student of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has been shot dead in what is being attributed to yet another cult clash.
The victim, identified as Kenneth, was gunned down within the school on Tuesday during the student week.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police PRO, confirmed the victim was a former YABATECH student to TheCable Lifestyle.
The PPRO said Kenneth, aged about 30, was shot in the chest and died while an effort was in place to save his life.
“It happened at the Liberal Studies department at around 4:45 pm. The victim was taken to the school clinic but later referred to the military hospital in Yaba where he was confirmed dead.
“He was shot in the chest. He has been deposited at the mainland hospital morgue at Yaba. The school apprehended one suspect.
“His name is Adigun Yusuf, aged 31 years. The case has been transferred to the state criminal investigations department for further probe.”
Kenneth is the second victim of violent cult clashes in YABATECH over the last two months alone.
On September 15, a male HND1 Graphics student of YABATECH was shot dead in the college.
A final-year student Bello Adisa was also killed in the same month.
In August, a student identified as Kunle, the governor of HND 1 of the Department of Quantity Survey, was reported to have been shot dead at the school’s sports complex while watching a football match.
In October 2022, Oke Obi-Enadhuze, a fresh graduate of computer science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in Ogun was shot dead.
Austin Izu, a 400-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), was also gunned down in June 2021.
