Kenneth Okonkwo, the Nollywood actor turned politician, has claimed that everybody under the All Progressive Congress (APC) government has become a “thief, including animals”.

The ace film star spoke on Thursday evening when he appeared on Channels TV ‘Politics Today’.

Okonkwo argued that corruption in the APC government has taken another dimension with “animals manifesting as witches stealing from the country’s coffers.”

“On the issue of corruption, one person who is supposed to be the custodian of the money of Nigeria was alleged to have stolen N109bn; the proveable one,” he said.

“You can imagine the APC government, you are witnessing termites eating documents, monkeys swallowing money, snakes becoming money eaters in APC government.

“I did not vote for animals to begin to manifest as witches stealing our money. In the APC government, everybody has become a thief including animals.”

Okonkwo was a member of the APC till July — when he dumped the ruling party over its decision to field a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the 2023 elections.

A month later, the actor joined the Labour Party (LP) and promised to help in actualising the presidential bid of Peter Obi.

In the interview, Okonkwo said he previously joined the APC because the party promised to tackle the security challenges bedeveling the country.

The movie star lamented that the ruling party has, however, “failed 735 per cent of the time from what they promised”.

“APC is bad because there is no sound coming out of APC, what you hear is noise; and you know when people make noise, they exchange ignorance through argument,” he continued.

“I didn’t subscribe to the fact that ASUU would be at home, students at home, my younger ones denied education for months and there is no end in sight; that was not the reason I entered APC.

“I entered APC because they promised me they will tackle security after the failure of PDP; give it to PDP they failed, they acknowledged, they apologised. APC came pretending that they will build on what PDP did, and yes they are building a skyscraper of failure on it because the security that was limited to the northeast has metastasized and has swept all over Nigeria.

“Southeast you talk about the unknown gunmen, north-central you talk about the herdsmen. In the northwest, you talk about bandits, kidnappers and terrorists, south-south you talk about oil thieves. In the northeast, Boko Haram is still laying ambush, liquidating our military officers and the people.”

In January, Okonkwo said he asked Igbo people to join the APC in 2019 in order to get a chance at fixing what he described as “16 years of misrule”.
