The Africa Union (AU) in collaboration with AFRIMA’s international committee unveiled the calendar for the awards, scheduled to hold between November 18 and 21, at a briefing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to a statement signed by Cisse Mariama Mohamed, AU’s director of health, humanitarian affairs and social development, entries for the awards will be opened to African music professionals either living on the continent or in the diaspora.

Mohamed said artistes can submit their entries via AFRIMA’s official website, adding that the submissions would end on August 20.

She also said that the submission of songs and videos must be produced or released under the year in review — which is June 1, 2020 to August 20, 2021 — to be considered for nomination in one or more of the forty (40) categories of the awards.

She revealed that the submission of entries would be followed by ‘pre-screening process’ billed to take place between August 21 to 28.

The AU’s representative said AFIRMA’s 13-man jury would thereafter sit for the adjudication process slated to hold between August 29 and September 6.

Mohammed noted that the selected nominees for the various categories of the awards would be unveiled on September 7, while the public voting process would follow on September 8.

She revealed that this year’s edition of the award is aimed at further connecting people across the continent following the setbacks caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

TheCable Lifestyle had reported how last year’s edition of the award was postponed due to raging effect of the novel disease at the time.
