The African Union Commission (AUC) and the international committee of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have announced Lagos as the host of the 2025 edition of the awards.

The host city was announced on Tuesday at an event held at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event, themed ‘Unstoppable Africa’, will take place from November 25 to 30, 2025.

The organisers also revealed the 2025 AFRIMA calendar, including key dates and activities leading up to the grand finale in Lagos.

Angela Martins, director for social development, culture and sport at the AUC, praised Lagos for its “consistent excellence in hosting major international events”.

“The city truly reflects the spirit of African music full of rhythm, creativity, and vibrant energy,” she said.

“Lagos has the right mix of modern facilities, good hospitality, strong media presence, and security and transport systems that make it ideal for hosting a major global event.”

This year’s edition is expected to feature over 1,600 nominees, 60,000 visitors and delegates, as well as over 2,300 production crew members.

The event is also estimated to reach over 400 million global viewers through live broadcasts on 109 television stations in 84 countries.

The organisers said entry submissions will open on May 27 and close on August 8, 2025. Artistes, producers, songwriters, and music professionals across Africa and the diaspora are invited to submit their works.

The 2025 AFRIMA calendar includes the #RoadToAFRIMA2025 tour, which will kick off in Morocco, with stops in Tanzania, Côte d’Ivoire, Paris, London, and Delta tate, Nigeria, before concluding in Namibia from October 31 to November 1.

Key events include the adjudication process from August 12 to 19, the nominee announcement on August 27, and public voting from September 5 to November 28.

AFRIMA Awards week will also feature the Diamond Showcase, Africa Music Business Summit, Music Icons’ Night, school visits, music festival, and the grand ceremony on Sunday, November 30.
