The artiste noted that as old as Nigeria is, the country is still in labour and waiting to give birth.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, Abdulkareem lamented the economic recession bedeviling the country and also stated that “people are angry and sad”.

“We need to pray for this country so that the child it wants to deliver better pikin (child)”, the artiste added.

He further said: “It’s so sad that Nigeria has been pregnant since 1960. She was 16-years-old when she was pregnant. Nigeria is already old and still in labour room, crying.

“Who raped Nigeria? Who slept with Nigeria? Who impregnated Nigeria? This wicked people are still around.”

Abdulkareem’s 2004 hit song, ‘Jaga Jaga’, criticised the corruption of government officials and widespread suffering of the populace.

‘Jaga Jaga’, a commercially successful song, was ultimately banned from radio airplay and was heavily criticised by Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s president at the time.

Many years later Abdulkareem’s criticism of the government appears unabated.

In the interview, he also advised president Muhammadu Buhari to not be biased in the execution of his duties.

“All the president needs to do is to write his name in gold and to be able to do that, he needs not to be biased”, Abdulkareem added.
