A high court of justice sitting in Benin, Edo state, has granted bail to Broda Mike, the comedian and vlogger, arrested for allegedly inciting the public.
Matthew Osa-oghogho, his lawyer, disclosed that he was released on Tuesday in a post via his Facebook page.
It is understood that the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested the Edo-based comedian, born Chukwu Emeka, on June 14 for allegedly inciting the public in one of his skits.
His arrest was said to have followed his video on a communal clash at a market in Benin, the state capital.
There are reports that an earlier court order approved a request by the DSS to remand the comedian till July 7.
But in the Facebook post, Osa-oghogho said the court agreed with his team’s “submission that the application for the remand of Chukwu is unmeritous and therefore admitted him to bail.”
“Today, the high court of justice sitting in Benin released comedian Emeka Chukwu aka #BrotherMike to bail. He was arrested by the Department of State Services and accused of inciting the Public,” he wrote.
“The court agreed with our submission that the application for the remand of Mr Chukwu is unmeritous and therefore admitted him to bail. We stand for justice always and at all times!”
