Omah Lay, the Nigerian singer, has released his highly anticipated single titled ‘Waist’.
The singer announced the release of the song, his first of the year, across streaming platforms on Friday.
The song finds Omah Lay in a confessional and captivated state, exploring the theme of overwhelming desire.
He sings about how the sight of a woman’s body can be a powerful distraction, leading him to make poor decisions.
With a blend of pidgin English and cultural references, he highlights the magnetic pull of a woman’s curves, which he refers to as “ikebe.”
He even draws a parallel to the biblical story of Samson, suggesting a similar, irresistible power.
“Jesu chai o/ The dada wey dey my head oh/ Scatter my enemies/ Confuse them with little things/ Jesu chai o/ I’m making wrong decisions/ Anytime I see ikebe, anytime I see ikebe/ Jesu Jesu/ Hm hmm hmmm/ Hm hmm hmmm/ Na 2 people something she carry for waist waist,” the lyrics read.
Omah Lay began his music journey at the age of 15.
Before stepping fully into the spotlight, he worked as a music producer. His breakthrough, however, came in 2020 with the release of his hit singles ‘You’ and ‘Bad Influence’.
Since then, he has continued to carve out a distinct place for himself in the Nigerian music scene with his unique sound.
Recently, he earned a nomination in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for ‘With You,’ his collaboration with Davido.
The singer, however, revealed that winning the award is not his priority, adding that he sincerely hopes Davido takes it home.
He described Davido as “the realest friend” who stood by him during his most difficult moments.
