Mr Eazi, the Nigerian singer, has released his highly anticipated new EP ‘Maison Rouge’.
The artist, born Oluwatosin Ajibade, announced the release on Friday via social media, revealing that the EP’s title and its distinctive sound are deeply inspired by a specific period of his life.
He explained that the project was recorded while he was living in a guest house named Maison Rouge in Cotonou, Benin.
Mr Eazi described the EP as a return to the foundational sound that launched his career.
“My new 7 song project Maison Rogue is here. Recorded while I was living in a guest house called Maison Rogue in Cotonou, Benin. This one takes me right to the Banku music sound that started it all. No features, just me, my thoughts, my melodies. This ain’t for the club,” he wrote.
The tracklist for ‘Maison Rouge’ includes ‘Violence’, ‘Wait For Your Love’, ‘Casanova’, ‘Make E No Tey’, ‘Corny’, ‘Bus Stop’ and ‘Love Me Now’.
Mr Eazi rose to international stardom following the breakthrough of his 2015 single ‘Holl Up.’
He is widely credited as the pioneer of Banku Music, a signature fusion sound that blends Ghanaian highlife with Nigerian chord progressions and patterns.
‘Maison Rouge’ follows his previous EPs, ‘One Day You Will Understand’ (2020) and ‘Something Else’ (2021), as well as his debut studio album, ‘The Evil Genius’ (2023).
Beyond his solo work, the singer expanded his ventures with the formation of ‘Choplife Soundsystem,’ a pan-African music collective he announced in April 2023.
