Yushau Adozuka, the Nigerian artiste better known as Gbono, has released his extended play (EP) titled ‘Maybe a Little Longer’.
The Okene-born singer announced the release of the five-track EP in a statement on Wednesday.
‘Maybe a Little Longer’ includes tracks like ‘6,6’, ‘Far & Wide’, ‘Nigerian’, ‘Mezebu’, and ‘Tonight’.
Speaking about the project, Gbono said the EP is not just a collection of songs but a “lived-in playlist of who I’ve been, and who I’m becoming”.
“I can rap, sing, and produce music across genres, from hip-hop and R&B to reggae, but I chose Afrobeats and Afrofusion because they give me the widest playground for expression,” he said.
“Afrobeats lets me bring all those influences together while staying rooted in my identity as a Nigerian artist. I can sing in English, Yoruba, or patois, I can harmonize, rap, or chant and it still feels cohesive, still feels like home.
“Each song on the EP reflects a chapter in that journey. ‘6,6’ is a moment of stillness and hanging on before the story starts. ‘Far & Wide’ explores faith and how far I’ve come.
“‘Nigerian’ is both a cry and a challenge, social commentary that asks us to do better. ‘Mezebu’ is coded intimacy. And ‘Tonight’ is a sigh of relief, the kind you exhale after a long, grinding week.”
Gbono began recording in Zaria in 2005, releasing a few projects under the name Big Brains. He later dropped his former stage name.
Alongside the rebrand, he founded his label Headline Music to support independent artistes.
