DaBaby, the US rapper, has combined with Davido, ace Afrobeats star, for the highly-anticipated track titled ‘Showing Off Her Body.’
The rapper announced the release of the track via his YouTube page on Friday.
The track was released a few weeks after DaBaby had visited Nigeria for a music video shoot, believed to be for the visuals of the song.
The bouncy rhythm brings DaBaby out of the trap-rap vibe that has become his signature into the percussion-heavy cadence of Afrobeats.
Nonetheless, the 30-year-old American rapper hitches the tempo with the expertise of a lifelong Afrobeats practitioner. He leads into the song with the chorus which addresses an unnamed woman who “gotta understand to stand beside me.”
DaBaby also segues fluidly into his rap verse and hails the sexual prowess of the said woman because “her hips twirl, that’s the way she hypnotize me.”
The sonically brilliant one and half minute lays the perfect foundation for the introduction of Davido’s verse.
The ‘Stand Strong’ crooner enters and rode the tempo higher with his catchy deliveries riddled with punchline like “money wasted but it’s on you/ So it really ain’t money wasted” and “Why the f— is yo’ ex calling? Tryna disappear?/ I been chilling, my ex calling, tryna reappear.”
