Abubakar Yakubu, national secretary of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), confirmed the tragic news to TheCable Lifestyle on Monday morning.

Yakubu said Emeka Rising Ibe, the Lagos chairman of the AGN, called him earlier to inform him of Chima’s demise.

He added that the veteran film star passed away on Sunday.

“Yes, she’s dead. She died yesterday. Our Lagos AGN chairman briefed me about it this morning but I couldn’t get all the details yet due network glitch at the time,” he said.

Chima was said to have been diagnosed with the disease last year, resulting in the eventual removal of her breast to avoid the further spread of cancerous cells.

The deceased was one of the founding members of the AGN when it was established.

She held several top positions in the AGN in the past including vice-chairperson for the Lagos chapter of the body.

The development further stretches the list of movie stars who have passed on since the dawn of the year.

It comes days after Rich Oganiru, another movie star, breathed his last after battling a kidney condition.

Her death also followed the demise of Rachel Oniga, the veteran Nollywood actress, who passed away at 64 in July.
