During the court session on Wednesday, Sekunda Olayide, the prosecutor, gave an account of the incident as contained in the police first information report (FIR).

According to the police FIR, officers attached to the anti-cultism unit had stormed ACE Club Bar in Ilorin after receiving a distress call from the state command’s headquarters.

It said the distress call had indicated that some hoodlums — who are reportedly wanted by the police — were allegedly holding a secret cult meeting at the club.

The FIR said upon sighting the anti-cultism team led by Waheed Akomolafe, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), the hoodlums allegedly opened fire on the officers.

It added that Ajeagbu was arrested during the gun duel with “one serviceable locally made pistol alongside two live cartridges”.

“Upon sighting the police patrol vehicle, the hoodlums armed with guns, opened fire on the police officers in an attempt to kill them and during the gun duel, the defendant (Ajeagbu) was arrested with one serviceable locally made pistol alongside two live cartridges,” it reads.

Citing a motion of exparte attached to the FIR, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand the DJ.

Olayide argued that the defendant’s offences are capital in nature and not ordinarily bailable.

Reacting, Teniola Ajayi, the magistrate, granted the prosecutor’s prayers and adjourned the matter till September 6, 2022.

TheCable Lifestyle reached out to Ajayi Okasanmi, the state police spokesperson, for comment on the matter.
