Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asked the party members in Lagos to disregard Funke Akindele — ahead of the state’s 2023 gubernatorial race.

Akindele is the running mate of Olajide ‘Jandor’ Adediran, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Lagos APC secretariat during the party’s caucus meeting, the former state governor told the party members at the event to act as if they don’t know the name of the actress.

The praise singers had compared the actress-turned-politician to an “ant” in the presence of the former governor of Lagos.

“Who is Funke Akindele? (she is) an ant in the presence of the father of Lagos (Tinubu),” they sang in the Yoruba language.

In his reaction, Tinubu said: “Don’t even remember that name. It’s disrespectful. It is an insult.

“A chicken that wants to go through a door and bends, how many wings does it have?”

Also present at the event were Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the current governor of Lagos, and Olufemi Hamzat, his deputy.

Akindele had earlier revealed that God called her and Jandor to change the story of Lagos.

“He chose me to be the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, despite the crowd that struggled to be chosen,” the actress had said.

“I give God all the glory for what he has done. God has always been doing the best for me.

“We were called by God, if not, we would have backed out. People have suffered but God has called us and put us forward to come and change the story of Lagos state for the better. The success of Lagos state is ours.”
