Dino Melaye, former senator representing Kogi west, says tackling the coronavirus pandemic is not about measures like using face masks or hand sanitisers but by adhering to the instruction of God.

The politician took to his Twitter handle on Thursday to make reference to a biblical excerpt which addressed how God sent down plagues amongst men as punishment for their wrongdoings.

“Whenever I hold back the rain or send locust to eat up the crops, or send an epidemic to my people, if they pray to me and repent…” the excerpt read.

“…if they turn away from the evils they have been doing, then I will hear them from heaven, forgive their sins and make their lands prosperous again.”

In a flurry of tweets, Melaye also called on people to use the period of the COVID-19 outbreak to come close to God.

“This corona period is a sober reflection time, reorganizing and discipline oneself. Most importantly staying attuned to God. We still remember the story in the bible about the tower of Babel,” he added.

“Governments have become gods, individuals have become diabolically arrogant, leaders have become thieves & cabals, citizens have become complacent & greedy.

“..Sin has become a normal lifestyle on earth and God is laughing at us in his sour displeasure. I repeat we must apologize to God & repent of our sins.”

Melaye’s claim comes as Nigeria confirmed fresh cases of COVID-19 at a time when the global death toll from the disease has exceeded 10,000, with about 250,000 infected across over 100 countries.

It also comes days after Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), suggested that coronavirus won’t come near those who serve God.

Mike Bamiloye, founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries International, had also said its low spread in Africa is due to fasting and prayers.
