Did you know that Joseph Fuwape, the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), is married to Ibiyinka Fuwape, the VC of Michael and Cecilia Ibru University?
The partners are both VCs of different universities, a rather rare achievement to pull off.
Joseph is the seventh substantive VC at FUTA.
His appointment was ratified by the governing council of the institution on May 18, 2017.
He succeeded Daramola Gregory, his predecessor.
However, before then, he was the VC of yet another institution — Salem University.
Prior to succeeding Paul Omojo Omaji as VC of Salem University, Joseph was the head of the Forestry and Wood Technology Department at FUTA for seven years.
He was dean of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology for four years at FUTA and a member of the university’s governing council there for eight years.
Joseph was the first director of the quality assurance unit at FUTA from 2010 to 2012.
It is believed that his tenure as the VC of FUTA will end on May 23, with Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, a professor of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Ilorin, appointed as the eighth substantive VC of the varsity.
On her part, Ibiyinka, a professor in Physics, is the second substantive VC of Michael and Cecilia Ibru University — a private institution in Nigeria.
She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physics (first class) from the University of Ibadan in 1984.
From the same university, she earned her Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in theoretical physics in 1986 and 1989 respectively.
Ibiyinka started as an assistant lecturer in 1989 at FUTA.
