Rufus Phala, a South African pastor, says God instructed him to heal members of his church with Dettol, a liquid disinfectant.

Dettol is the trade name of a line of hygiene products produced by Reckitt Benckiser.

The cleric, who is a prophet at AK Spiritual Christian Church in Makgodu, Limpopo, told his congregation to drink the disinfectant, promising that they will be healed of their sickness.

Daily Sun, a South African newspaper, reports that it has seen a video where the pastor was recorded giving his congregation the disinfectant.

“I know Dettol is harmful, but God instructed me to use it. I was the first one to drink it,” he was quoted to have said.

Phala also claimed that he has been getting WhatsApp messages from people who say they had been healed.

Dettol disinfectant is considered harmless when mixed with bath water or when used to clean a wound but the makers warn against its consumption.

Few weeks ago, Lethebo Rabalago, another South African prophet, sprayed his congregation with insecticide claiming that it would expel their troubles and heal them.
