On Sunday, season 9 of the reality show launched with the unveiling of 28 housemates.

The show attracted the attention of numerous Nigerians and also trended on social media platforms.

But in a now-deleted Instagram post, Etiko berated Nigerians who are “enthusiastic about the reality show” despite the prevailing economic hardship in the country.

The 34-year-old film star also wondered how people could still find joy in watching BBNaija while the nation grapples with economic and security challenges.

“E don red for our country and I still dey see people dey happy about BBN hmmmmm na wa oh!” Etiko wrote.

‘‘Oh una still get money for data abi?! If you guys do not complain then who am I to do so. I am majorly concerned about the poor masses though. That you can survive does not mean everyone can o.

‘‘Crime is now happening everywhere… Insecurity has become the order of the day and everywhere is calm… THE EARLIER, THE BETTER.”

The BBNaija show will run for 71 days and is expected to end on October 6. The winner of the 2024 season will go home with a cash prize of N100 million.

However, TheCable earlier reported that several Nigerians, under various bodies, are planning a nationwide protest between August 1 and 10.

The protest, according to the groups, is aimed to show their opposition against the economic hardship particularly the rising cost of living in the country.

The planned protest has sparked mixed reactions among celebrities.

Actor Yul Edochie recently urged people not to protest and to be patient with President Bola Tinubu. Singer Portable also argued there is no reason to protest because “Nigeria is okay”.

Activist DJ Switch, however, called on Nigerians to unite ahead of the planned protest “if we want actual change”.

On Monday, some youths in Niger state trooped out with placards bearing inscriptions like ‘Fuel subsidy must be back’, ‘Enough is enough’, ‘Stop anti-masses policies’, ‘We are not slaves in our country’, and ‘Hardship is unbearable’.
