D’banj’s Nollywood debut ‘Sugar Rush’ hits cinemas December 25

‘Sugar Rush’, a movie by Jade Osiberu, which turns out to be the Nollywood debut of Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, Nigerian singer and songwriter better known as D’banj, hits cinemas on December 25.

Osiberu, an AMVCA-winning filmmaker, had earlier announced that the talented musician would be featuring in her forthcoming movie, which she said was filmed in just 14 days in locations around the commercial city of Lagos.

She also said ‘Sugar Rush’ would be released for public viewing on December 25 — at the very peak of the festive season.

Among the Nollywood stars and newcomers to feature in the Christmas thriller are Adesua Etomi Wellignton, BBNaija’s Bisola Aiyeola, Omoni Oboli, Toke Makinwa, Mawuli Gavor, Tobi Bakare, Nkem Owoh, Adedimeji Lateef, Mama Rainbow, Zack Orji, and Bimbo Ademoye.

Although much was not disclosed as regards the role played by D’banj in the movie, Osiberu had previously said the music star doubles as co-producer on the project.

“Sugar Rush is a co-production amongst Greoh Media, FilmOne, DKM Media and Jungle Filmworks. Thanks to my co-Executive Producers D’Banj, Moses Babatope, Kene Okwuosa, and Seyi Siwoku for making it happen,” she had written.

D’banj, 39, is best known for his 2012 summer hit ‘Oliver Twist’, a fusion of Afrobeats and electronic dance music that topped the African charts in 2011 and emerged among the top 10 hits in the UK singles chart in 2012 — even reaching no. 2 on the UK R&B chart.
