Davido has expressed gratitude to Angelique Kidjo, the Grammy-winning Beninese singer, for collaborating with artistes across Africa.
In a recent Instagram live session with Kidjo, the Afrobeats star revealed that he used to travel to Benin with his parents when he was a child.
Davido added that he grew up listening to the ‘Wombo Lombo’ hitmaker.
He also appreciated her for working with him and his colleagues in Africa.
“They don’t know that since when I was little I have been going to Cotonou, Benin with my dad and mum,” he said.
“Yeah I’m close and I have a lot of families in Benin as well. We’ve always listened to your music and we grew up listening to your music.
“And what I love about what you do is that a lot of people disconnect from what is currently going on in the world.
“You have always been available for us, I mean my colleagues and you have worked with Stonebwoy and people in other countries like South Africa and Kenya.
“For you to always bless me and always answer everytime I call, I love that and I appreciate you. Even before the record, you and I have always spoken about how the world needs healing.”
Last week, the Beninese singer released a new single titled ‘Joy’ featuring Davido.
The new project follows the success of their first collaborative song ‘Na Money‘.
‘Na Money,’ which also featured The Cavemen, was the third song off Davido’s 2023 album ‘Timeless’.
Kidjo is known for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos. She has won five Grammy Awards and is also the 2023 Polar Music Prize laureate.
The 64-year-old is regarded as one of the greatest singers in Africa. Aside from her incredible music career, Kidjo is an actress and activist.
Davido, on the other hand, has firmly established himself as one of the prominent artistes out of Africa. He has also won several awards.
