David ‘Davido’ Adeleke says he’s a mentor to Dremo, Mayorkun, Danagog and Dammy Krane, artistes signed to his record label.
While Dremo, Mayorkun and Danagog are relatively known upcoming singers, Dammy Krane has been active in the Nigerian music scene since 2012.
Davido set up ‘Davido Music Worldwide’ shortly after the unofficial dissolution of his HKN record label, which was home to Sina Rambo and B-Red, his cousins.
In a recent interview with ThisDay Style, Davido expressed his interest in nurturing and supporting “talented newcomers”.
The Aiye singer noted that his recently signed artistes are working hard on their respective careers.
“I signed a couple of artistes to my new record label, DMW (Davido Music Worldwide). We have Dremo, Mayorkun, Danagog, Ichaba and recently, Dammy Krane. These guys all look up to me as their mentor”, he said.
“Dremo and Mayorkun have top charting songs and are currently making waves in the music industry. Danagog also has been on for a while and he has some good music out there.
“We are currently working on new materials for Ichaba and Dammy Krane. My team and I are putting in a lot of work to push their career musically.”
The singer, who’s also known as Omo Baba Olowo (OBO), attributes his music affinity to his late mother.
“Growing up, my mother threw lots of parties at home and so we had lots of good music to listen to. Music has been a very integral part of my life growing up. I started doing music from about age 13.
While the artistes on his record label “look up to him”, the Sony Music signee says he admires “the likes of Usher Raymond, D’banj and Chris Brown”.
“Their music is beyond amazing and they have impeccable talent that intrigues me to want to be like them as an artiste”, he added.
