David Adeleke, Nigerian Afropop singer better known as Davido, has alleged that there are attempts to use thugs to discredit the ongoing #EndSARS protest.
The protest against the excesses of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) and police brutality has continued to garner momentum across the country.
Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), has announced that the police unit had been banned.
The #EndSARS campaign is gradually raising concerns in some quarters following activities of hoodlums.
TheCable had reported how some hoodlums orchestrated a jailbreak at correctional centre in Benin, Edo state, before setting a police station ablaze in another part of the state, on Monday.
In Lagos, some hoodlums also attacked operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos state police command.
Reacting to the development in a post on his Twitter page, the Davido said such incidents were indicative of efforts to thwart the #EndSARS movement.
“They have started hiring thugs to pose as protesters!!! E no go work!!! #EndSARS,” he wrote.

There have been attempts by the Lagos state government, Nigeria Governors Forum and the federal government to placate protesters and get them off the streets.
