Daddy Billy, the Nigerian actor, has detailed the final hours of his colleague Odira Nwobu who tragically passed away in South Africa.
Odira’s death was confirmed on Monday by his manager Arthur Scott.
Scott revealed the actor was in the country for a film shoot as a brand ambassador. He added that Odira had been managing high blood pressure for some time.
In a video posted on Facebook, Billy provided a detailed timeline of the events leading to the tragedy.
He disclosed that Odira suffered a major health scare just three days before his demise, experiencing a severe episode where his heart began racing uncontrollably.
He said the actor was rushed to a pharmacy, where his blood pressure was measured at 171, and that Odira was placed on medication and stabilised afterwards.
“It is unfortunate that he struggled for his life, but I want to clear the air. I saw a lot of comments, people were asking what killed him? What did that? But three days ago, apparently Odira had that attack where his heart was beating so fast, and he was taken to the pharmacy,” he said.
“When they got to the pharmacy and his BP was checked, it was 171. The pharmacist was shocked, he was like ‘you are lucky. If you had wasted time, you would have gone. I am surprised you are still standing here, it is either you would have had a stroke or something’.
“So the pharmacist explained to him and gave him the medication. Odira was taking the medication and he became stable.”
Billy said he believes a missed dose may have led to his death. He said on Sunday evening, while out with friends, Odira began complaining of weakness.
According to him, the group proceeded to a club, where Odira appeared to be in better spirits, even posting videos online. After the outing, everyone returned to their respective apartments.
“On Sunday, he went out and I think somewhere along the line, he did not take the BP tablet. So from yesterday evening, he started complaining about weakness,” he added.
“When we walked for a little bit, he said he was tired because he could not walk for long, but nobody got that sign, nobody remembered to even ask about the tablet. It escaped everyone’s mind, and we eventually went to the club. It was fun. You all saw the videos; he also posted videos, and he was okay.
“From there, we all dispersed, and he went back to his apartment. Then we got another call that Odira’s heart was beating fast again, and before we knew it, he was gone. We could not believe it, you know this is South Africa and we have procedures here.
“You cannot just carry someone who is almost lifeless and be driving around in your car, that is another issue.”
He described the helplessness of the situation, noting the strict procedures in South Africa that prevented them from moving Odira themselves.
“We had to wait for the ambulance, the ambulance came and confirmed him dead. We are talking early this morning, before 3am, Odira has already passed away,” he said.
