The elusive Nigerian singer popularly known as Cybergen on TikTok has released a new song to criticise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The now-viral song, titled ‘Tell Your Father’, specifically calls out Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, for allegedly failing to counsel his father on the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
Cybergen’s lyrics challenge Seyi to inform Tinubu about the severe hardships citizens endure, from skyrocketing food prices to rampant insecurity.
In the track, delivered in Pidgin English, Cybergen, whose real name and identity aren’t known, paints a grim picture of Nigeria’s current state.
The song also touches on the dangerous state of roads, daring Seyi to experience travel by road firsthand.
“Tell your papa sey we bleed/ Na mago mago dey run this creed/ Tell your father sey we dey vex/ Babylon don scatter/ Seyi me ask you clear una/ una papa promise but suffer still dey/Food cost high na wahala menu/ Rice and beans we can’t afford two,” he sings.
Cybergen’s release follows Abdulkareem’s viral hit, ‘Tell Your Papa,’ which was banned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for being “objectionable”.
Abdulkareem’s track, released on April 7, highlighted Nigeria’s economic struggles, drawing parallels to his 2004 banned anthem ‘Jaga Jaga,’ which criticized former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
The NBC’s censorship sparked backlash from civil society groups, including the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka.
