A lecturer at Covenant University (CU) identified as Stephen Ukenna has been arrested by the Ogun state police command for allegedly raping a 17-year-old female student.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesman of the Ogun state police command, confirmed the arrest to TheCable Lifestyle on Tuesday.
Oyeyemi said the lecturer, who works with the CU’s Department of Business Management, was arrested on March 11 after a complaint by the victim’s parents.
It was gathered that the lecturer had invited the young girl to his office on the said date under the pretence that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her close friend.
The victim, who narrated the incident to her parents over the phone, said Ukenna locked the office door and forcefully had sex with her on his table when she got to his office.
Following an investigation into the case, the state police spokesperson said that the CU Business Management lecturer admitted to having carnal knowledge of the young girl.
“Upon the report, the Area Commander Ota, ACP Muyideen Obe swiftly deployed his JWC team to the school where the randy lecturer was promptly arrested,” the PPRO said.
“On interrogation, the suspect admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim but was unable to give any reason for his action.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.”
