Akan Williams has been appointed the acting vice-chancellor of Covenant University by the institution’s board of regents.
In a statement on Wednesday, Attat Emmanuel, the information officer of the institution, said Williams’s appointment came after the expiration of the tenure of Aaron Atayero, the immediate past vice-chancellor.
“The appointment of Williams was approved on Tuesday, following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past vice-chancellor, prof. Aaron Atayero,” he said.
“Williams was born on February 16, 1970 in Calabar, Cross river state, he is a native of Itoko, Ibesikpo-Asutan local government area of Akwa-Ibom.
“He earned a B.Sc degree (Chemistry) from University of Calabar in 1991, an M.Sc degree (Petroleum Chemistry) from University of Port Harcourt and a Ph.D degree (Environmental Chemistry) from Covenant University.
“He is a fellow of chemical society of Nigeria; a former chairman, Ogun chapter, chemical society of Nigeria; member, institute of chartered chemists of Nigeria; member, royal society of chemistry and a member American chemical society among others.”
Covenant University was recently ranked among Nigeria’s best institutions in the 2021 Times Higher Education’s (THE) rankings.
