A fresh debate over Regina Daniels‘ age at the time of her marriage to politician Ned Nwoko has ignited social media, adding a new layer of controversy to the couple’s public marital crisis.
The dispute erupted against a backdrop of heightened scrutiny into their relationship, which began in October when a viral video showed Daniels in tears, alleging domestic violence.
Nwoko later countered, claiming his wife was grappling with drug and alcohol addiction.
The focus has now shifted to the beginning of their union, with online users contesting how old the actress was when she married the then 59-year-old Nwoko in 2019.
The debate centres on whether she was underage or a young adult.
On one side of the argument, some social media users and fellow actresses claimed Daniels was significantly younger than publicly stated.
Actress Mercy Johnson, in a since-deleted Instagram story, argued that Daniels was 17 at the time of her marriage.
“She was 17. Teen. At 17, I was still figuring out personal hygiene. Some 17 year old boys are still learning how to wipe their a***s. But now we expected perfection from her because she is on camera?” she wrote.
Her claim was bolstered by actress Doris Ogala, who alleged in an Instagram post that she had seen official documents.
“Only a mother will tell you when she gave birth to her child. I’ve seen Regina’s birth certificate and her international passport. Gina was born 10 October, 2001. She got married sometime in May 2019. She was 17+ when she married,” she added.

However, Ossai Success, special assistant on media to the governor of Delta state, dismissed the claims as falsehoods. In a Facebook post, he insisted Daniels was 19 when she wed Nwoko.
“Mercy Johnson should stop spreading lies, Regina was not 17 when Ned got married to her. Ned married Regina Daniels 2019. Regina’s date of birth is 10/10/2000 making her 19 years at the time,” he wrote.
“I am disappointed with this age narrative thing. Honestly I do not like what is going on, no marriage is perfect. We all have our issues in our different marriages. Let’s stop pushing the narrative that will destroy the love that is still between Regina and Ned.”
Further complicating the timeline, a 2019 statement from Daniels’ mother Rita resurfaced online, in which she said her daughter would be “turning 20” that year, ostensibly justifying her support for the marriage.
According to Wikipedia, Daniels was born on October 10, 2000, which makes her 25 this year.
The conflicting accounts have split public opinion, with some condemning Nwoko and others defending the marriage by asserting Daniels was a consenting adult, regardless of the specific age.
