Raji Samad Adetola, the Nigerian skit maker and fast-rising comedian popularly known as Sanku Comedy, is dead.

Sanku passed away on Monday after being involved in a ghastly car accident along the Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway in Ibadan.

Initial reports confirmed that he and his friends had been rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, sparking a wave of concern and prayers from fans online.

Yoruba actress Funmi Awelewa later confirmed Sanku’s death in a heartfelt Instagram post. She recounted her frantic efforts to check on his condition.

“When I saw the news online, I quickly sent one of my students that stays close to Bowen hospital and he told me that he met one of your friends at the hospital who told us that you’re responding to treatment. I prayed God, we prayed!!!!” she wrote.

In an accompanying caption, Awelewa also revealed the comedian had a role in her upcoming film.

“The pain, effort, strength, struggle… nothing makes sense. I’m heartbroken. Even the film is not out yet. It doesn’t make sense for real,” the caption reads.

The comedian’s death comes just hours after he shared a video on his TikTok page, vibing to a song with a friend.

“When it’s time for us to enjoy what we worked hard for, may we never lose our lives,” the caption reads.

Sanku Comedy rose to prominence in 2021 with his unique and engaging style, which often blended witty storytelling with sharp humour.

He gained widespread recognition for his popular skit series ‘Zanku Exchange’.
