Princess Damilola Adekoya, Nigerian comedian, has expressed optimism that she will emerge victorious in a sexual assault case against Olanrewaju James, Yoruba actor better known as Baba Ijesha.

Baba Ijesha was granted bail on Monday — after spending about 25 days in police detention.

The film star was released by magistrates in charge of prison decongestion after prominent figures had publicly opposed his bail.

Reacting to Baba Ijesha’s bail, Princess, whose foster daughter was the assault victim, took to her Instagram page to reiterate her optimism in the case.

The comedian, who said she trusts God to grant her victory, used hashtags for rape and child molestation to pass across her message.

“I will win not immediately but definitely, she wrote.

Following his arrest on April 22, Baba Ijesha had been detained by the Lagos state police after he was alleged to have sexually assaulted the minor at 7 and 14.

Due to the strike by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), court cases, including that of the actor, had been placed on hold.

Moyosore Onigbanjo, the commissioner for justice, had said that the state’s directorate of public prosecution (DPP) recommended five charges against the actor — putting Baba Ijesha at risk of being sentenced to life imprisonment.

The DPP later ruled out pre-trial bail for the actor, adding that the case against him was sexual assault by penetration.

Yomi Fabiyi, another Nollywood actor, had earlier staged a protest at the Panti police station seeking Baba Ijesha’s release on administrative bail.

He had claimed that the confession obtained from the actor was made under duress.
