The award-winning movie star, 35, told Variety while discussing how his acting trajectory wound up with him wielding a sledgehammer in Marvel’s 2019 blockbuster superhero film.

Admitting that he, at some point, questioned his foray into acting, the ‘Men in Black International’ actor said he came to a point where he was “running out of money” and was short of funds to help his parents.

“I wanted to pay off their house initially. That was my sort of thing,” Hemsworth explained and further recounted movie roles in ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra’ and ‘X-Men’ he turned down for ‘Thor’ in ‘Avengers’.

“At the time, I was upset. I was running out of money. But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn’t have been able to play Thor,” he said.

The Norse god of thunder aired his doubts about the character choices made in the movie. According to him, he felt there was “so much more” he could do.

“I’d still love to do more, to be honest. I don’t know what the plan is. I feel like we’ve opened up such a different character. I feel more energized about the possibility of where it could go. But I’ll use that in other places and other characters if it’s the end here,” he explained.

“This year, I won’t shoot anything. I just want to be at home with my kids. They’re at a very important age and are aware when I leave more than before. I have a press tour and few endorsements but I’ll mostly just be at home.”
