Chidimma Adetshina, the recently crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has revealed why she deactivated her X (Twitter) account.

In an Arise TV interview, the 23-year-old model said her decision to delete her X page was motivated by the overwhelming negative feedback she received from critics.

Chidimma, who revealed that she often read users’ comments, said the toxicity prompted her departure from the microblogging platform.

“I’m not on Twitter. I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader so I read each and every comment; that’s the thing,” she said.

“So for me, I could spend 80% of my day reading comments. I’d read the comments and all and it became toxic for me. I use Instagram but I did limit my comment section one time.”

Chidimma was born in 2001 in Soweto at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Her father is of Igbo descent while some reports said her mother is a Mozambican who had become a naturalized citizen of South Africa.

The model sparked controversy during this year’s Miss South Africa pageant due to her nationality.

This led to a surge of criticism on social media, particularly from South Africans. Chidimma would later withdraw from the Miss South Africa contest.

Her withdrawal came after the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) for South Africa alleged that preliminary evidence suggests Chidimma’s mother may have committed fraud and identity theft.

She recently addressed the allegations, saying “I didn’t steal anyone’s identity”.
