Chidimma Adetshina, the embattled Miss South African contestant, has officially joined the Miss Universe Nigeria competition as the representative of Taraba state.

Chidimma was born in 2001 in Soweto at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Her father is of Igbo descent while some reports said her mother is a Mozambican who had become a naturalized citizen of South Africa.

Her participation in Miss South Africa had sparked controversy due to questions about her nationality. This led to a surge of criticism on social media, particularly from South Africans.

The controversy prompted an investigation by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs.

Following the investigation, Chidimma decided to withdraw from Miss South Africa.

On August 14, she accepted the invitation to participate in this year’s Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.

The organisers of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant on Friday announced Chidinma’s participation in the competition.

They also revealed that she will compete as Miss Taraba with contestant number 25.

“Introducing CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA (@chichi_vanessa ) as MISS TARABA STATE,” the organisers wrote.

“Visit www.missuniversenigeria.org to vote your favourite delegate! VOTING LINES ARE OPEN!#MissUniverseNigeria #MUN2024.”

Mia Le Roux, the newly crowned Miss South Africa, recently condemned the online hate directed at Chidimma.

She urged South Africans to “do better” in showing support rather than creating divisions.

“I stand for unity. I do not stand for people being divided. We can do better in supporting and including one another, as exclusion is not acceptable,” she said.
