Some celebrities and prominent persons across the world have taken to social media to react to the ban placed on President Donald Trump’s Twitter account.
The microblogging platform had on Friday permanently suspended Trump’s account over what they termed as “risk of further incitement of violence.”
“After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter had written in a statement.
Prior to the development, TheCable had reported how Trump’s account was locked for 12 hours and three of his tweets deleted for “severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy” on Wednesday.
Trump was said to have used his handle to mobilise his supporters who invaded Capitol Hill, while the congress was certifying the victory of Joe Biden, US president-elect.
The incident had sparked global outrage on the platform, with many calling for the impeachment of Trump.
In the wake of Twitter’s action on Trump’s account, some celebrities and prominent persons have begun to commend the leadership of the microblogging platform.
Stephen King, an Author wrote: “Twitter finally got fed up with Trump’s lying (expletive) and took away his megaphone. Good. Makes me proud to be a twitterhead.”
Whoopi Goldberg, an actress, also wrote: “finally” alongside a picture of the suspended account.
Twitter finally got fed up with Trump's lying bullshit and took away his megaphone. Good. Makes me proud to be a twitterhead.
