President Muhammadu Buhari has showered praises on Onyeka Onwenu, the renowned songwriter and singer, on the occasion of her 70th birthday.

In a statement by Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Buhari eulogised the award-winning singer for “leading a life that keeps inspiring both the old and young”.

The statement was titled ‘President Buhari greets Onyeka Onwenu at 70.’

“The President affirms that Onwenu’s creativity, sincerity of purpose and diligence continue to bring glory to the country, starting out as an NTA presenter and reporter that caught the world’s attention by putting a spotlight on corruption in the 80’s, and releasing songs with great social and moral impact,” it read.

Buhari also hailed Onwenu, a former executive director/chief executive officer of the National Centre for Women Development and chairperson of Imo State Council for Arts and Culture, for fresh ideas and institutional reforms she brought into public service.

He lauded her for passionately creating and pursuing a vision for a better life for many.

The president also said that Onwenu’s many recognitions and awards at home and abroad were well-deserved, adding that she directed her energy into global movies with historic contexts.

“The president said Onwenu directed her energy into sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ,” it added.

“He prayed that God would continue to bless Onwenu, the singer of “One Love’’, who is also known as the Elegant Stallion, with long life and good health.”
