A death, rumours of one and a remembrance were the trending topics on Google this week.

Is Buhari dead?

Although the true state of President Muhammadu Buhari’s health is a secret, the fact that he is not in perfect state of health isn’t one.

On May 7, the president travelled to London for the second time in 2017 for a medical check-up. Soon after, a text was circulated with news of his death.

“Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been confirmed dead in London where he was receiving medical attention. The Nigerian high commissioner to the United Kingdom told reporters plans are underway to transport the body of the late president to Abuja where final burial funeral rites will be held,” the text read in part.

“Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, is expected to be sworn into office as the substantive president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Government is yet to issue an official statement on the president’s demise. He was 74 years old.”

Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, has since said that nothing unpleasant has happened to the president.

Inquisitive Nigerians used search terms like ‘is buhari dead’, ‘president buhari dead’, ‘is president buhari dead’, and ‘is president buhari dead or alive’.

Remembering Bob Marley

May 11 is globally recognised as Bob Marley Day, a day which is observed by playing the songs of the reggae maestro and showcasing the Rastafarian culture.

This year’s remembrance was unique because it marked exactly 36 years since Marley died at the age of 36 in Miami, Florida, on May 11, 1981, due to cancer.

That means that Thursday, May 11, 2017, is the “equilibrium day” of Bob Marley’s life circle, something that’ll only happen once.

Bob Marley was born on February 6, 1945, in Nine Miles, Saint Ann, Jamaica, to Norval Marley and Cedella Booker.

Google search terms used by Nigerian fans included, ‘bob marley’, ‘bob marley songs’, ‘bob marley day’, and ‘lucky dube’.
