On May 7, the president travelled to London for the second time in 2017 for a medical check-up. Soon after, a text was circulated with news of his death.

“Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been confirmed dead in London where he was receiving medical attention. The Nigerian high commissioner to the United Kingdom told reporters plans are underway to transport the body of the late president to Abuja where final burial funeral rites will be held,” the text read in part.

“Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, is expected to be sworn into office as the substantive president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Government is yet to issue an official statement on the president’s demise. He was 74 years old.”

Remembering Bob Marley

May 11 is globally recognised as Bob Marley Day, a day which is observed by playing the songs of the reggae maestro and showcasing the Rastafarian culture.

This year’s remembrance was unique because it marked exactly 36 years since Marley died at the age of 36 in Miami, Florida, on May 11, 1981, due to cancer.
