Chukwuemeka Onwuka, a Nigerian bridegroom, has died in Amasiri, Afikpo north local government area of Ebonyi, after slumping at the reception venue.
The deceased, who was an ophthalmologist from Item in the Bende LGA of Abia, was to tie the knot with Onyinyechi Ugbor, who hails from Ihie village in the Amasiri community, on Saturday, when the tragedy struck.
Onwuka passed away after he fell to the ground and started foaming in the mouth, following several bouts of dancing with his bride and family members who were present at the reception venue to celebrate the union.
According to Punch, the bridegroom was rushed to a nearby hospital when he showed no sign of recovery.
“So, the second round of dancing was announced and as the bridegroom approached the dance floor, he fell down and started foaming in the mouth,” a source told the news outlet.
“He was carried outside and was being fanned by people, but there was no sign of recovery. It was at that point that it was suggested that he should be taken to hospital.”
The deceased was, thereafter, referred to the Mater Hospital, Afikpo, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
“He was seen on Thursday very healthy. This incident happened at Amasiri Central School. So, I can tell you that it is either the bridegroom or the bride disappointed someone and the person saw the wedding as an opportunity to avenge,” said a close family member.
