Boris Johnson, British prime minister, has been pictured flying an economy class with Carrie Symonds, his girlfriend, during their New Year holiday visit to the Caribbean.
According to Daily Mail, the prime minister’s long visit from London to St Lucia on Thursday via British Airways, was dubbed “low profile” considering he was on the trip with “little security”.
Fellow passengers aboard the airline shared photos of the lovebirds seated towards the back end of the plane — where more turbulence can occur — with the prime minister seen wedged close to the window seat leafing through a book.
Symonds is also seen snuggling into Johnson while she had a blanket wrapped around her.
The cost of the flight would have been in the region of £1,300 each, which is a lot less than if the PM had used an RAF private jet costing up to £100,000 — a decision that would “definitely” save a lot of taxpayers’ money, considering they had to spend less.
It is believed that the duo were not offered an upgrade on the flight due to strict anti-bribery and corruption rules in place at airlines.
The development further brings to fore Symonds’s economical personality. She had reportedly opted to hire her designer outfits recently instead of purchasing them.
Symonds was also said to have preferred to continue with her daily activities as an adviser to Oceana, an environmental campaign group.
The holiday comes on the heels of the prime minister’s recent election victory, where the Conservatives, his party, won majority seats to ensure his return to office.
