Anita Pointer, the sister of the deceased, who is also a member of the group, broke the tragic news while speaking to the Associated Press on Monday.

“It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of the Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning,” she said.

“Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time.

“Bonnie was my best friend and we talked every day. We never had a fight in our life. I already miss her and I will see her again one day.”

Bonnie is known as one of the founding members of the group, although she had left in 1977 to pursue a short-lived solo career while her sisters went on to have several hits songs without her.

The 69-year-old show-business personality had often sung in the lead and was an essential member of the group through most of its first hits, some of which are ‘Fairytale’ and ‘Yes We Can Can’.

Born in Oakland, California, Bonnie, born Patricia, and June Pointer, her younger sister, who died in 2006, initially struck out as a duo under the name the Pointers.

Aside from Ruth and Anita, Bonnie is survived by Aaron and Fritz, her two older brothers.
