The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has yet to confirm the rumours of the arrest of crossdresser Bobrisky at the popular Seme border.
Seme border is a settlement in Nigeria on the border with Benin. It is a thirty-minute drive from Badagry on the coastal road between Lagos and Cotonou.
VeryDarkMan, the controversial activist, earlier alleged that the Benin Republic Immigration Service apprehended the social media celebrity at the border during passport checks.
The activist claimed the self-proclaimed transgender was trying to flee the country when she was apprehended.
Bobrisky was said to have been arrested on Sunday night and moved to the Lagos office of the NIS on Monday.
“Baba wan japa, dem hold am. I do not know whether it is true or lie. Let Bobrisky come on Instagram to do live session and he should make a video post. The godfather that called the prison will present himself,” he said.
“This thing might look like a witch-hunt. It is a problem in Nigeria when people that sent to go to prison do not go to prison. Another invite is near and now he wants to leave the country.”
As of the time of this report, the NIS has not officially commented on reports of Bobrisky’s alleged arrest.
Efforts by TheCable Lifestyle to reach Kenneth Udo, the NIS spokesperson, have also proven abortive as phone calls and text messages were left unanswered.
Bobrisky is under investigation by a committee of the house of representatives alongside the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) over bribery allegations.
This was after the activist shared a purported audio conversation wherein the crossdresser claimed that she paid some EFCC officials N15 million to drop money laundering charges against her.
The self-proclaimed transgender later described the viral recording as “fake” and threatened to sue VeryDarkMan for alleged defamation.
