Bisola Badmus, the Nollywood actress popularly known as Adunni Adunbarin, has recounted how she survived a life-threatening brain tumour.
In an emotional message shared on Instagram to mark her birthday, Badmus expressed that she remains “forever indebted to God Almighty” for sparing her life and restoring her health after a turbulent and frightening battle that began in 2022.
She revealed that her ordeal started suddenly when she fell ill, a condition she initially dismissed as minor until medical tests delivered a shattering diagnosis: a brain tumour.
Reflecting on that moment, Badmus described how the news shook her to her core, acknowledging that the devil “tried indeed,” but divine intervention prevailed.
“Owo re ni mo ri. Owo re ni mo ri, igba ti aye dan mi wo, owo re ni mo ri. I will forever be indebted to God Almighty for His mercy, grace, favour, blessings, and eternal peace. All I have to say is thank you, Agbanilagbatan. When life’s challenges came, God proved Himself to me in many ways,” she wrote.
“The devil tried indeed, but my God said, ‘No, do not touch my anointed and do my prophet no harm.’ Oluwaseun, Olohun modupe o. It all started in 2022 when this illness came knocking. Hmmm… I thought it was a joke until I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Hmmm… That took everything I ever worked for.”
Badmus emphasised that, had it not been for God’s intervention, the illness would have taken her life.
“If not for God, it almost took my life but Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin. All thanks to God Almighty for His intervention. This is not an experience I would ever wish on anyone, not even my enemy. Amo adupe, aye ope yo. I am hale and hearty now, which is why I’m here today, to show my gratitude to the God who never fails,” she added.
“And to all the good people God sent to stand by me during these trying times, ahhh, ese modupe o! I can’t thank you all enough. I can’t even start mentioning names; God sees you all. Mi o ni fi irú e san fún yin o.”
Her recovery, she affirmed, is nothing short of divine. She thanked family, friends, colleagues, and supporters who provided emotional and financial support throughout the difficult period, reserving special praise for her son, Abdul Malik, whom she credited with remarkable strength.
“To my family, friends, and colleagues, ese modupe. And to my adorable son, Abdul Malik Olasunkanmi Ayinde Marshal, thank you for staying strong and firm during these trying times. Hmmm… ko easy o. Oh my beloved son, may God grant me long life in sound health so I can take you around the world,” she added.
“Thank you, my love, for showing me how much I mean to you. Iku ojuji ko ni gba e mi lowo, Abdul Malik. Ose okomi. To everyone who supported with funds, abudi lagbara Olohun Oba, ese modupe. It was a lot o. A lot went down the drain, but we thank God for His infinite mercy and intervention.
“I’m grateful to God for giving me the opportunity and grace to witness another year among the living and not among the dead. I am grateful because He restored all lost hopes. He replenished me in unexpected ways. Even though oju apa ko le dabi oju ara, Oluwaseun, I’m grateful still.
“Please, lovers of Adunni Adunbarin Matoshi, thank God on my behalf, because I am a living testimony that what God cannot do does not exist. Happy birthday to me — Abisola Adunni Adunbarin Matoshi. Eni O.”
In 2023, the film star opened up about her battle with a brain disease known as encephalopathy. She said the condition made her stay away from social media.
