A representative of Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, has debunked a report that the billionaire businessman and Paula Hurd, his girlfriend, are engaged.
The romantic relationship between the US entrepreneur and his girlfriend became public knowledge in February.
On Tuesday, a report, however, surfaced that Hurd, 61, was spotted wearing a large ring on her wedding finger while spending quality time with Gates and his children in New York.
The pair, alongside Gates’ children – Jennifer, Rory, and Phoebe – were seen leaving Boucherie, an upscale restaurant in the West Village on Saturday.
However, Gates’ spokesperson, said the jewelry that Hurd was seen wearing on her ring finger is an item she has owned for “decades”.
The representative said Hurd’s ring does not symbolise an engagement.
“Our office can confirm that the ring Mrs. Hurd was seen wearing has belonged to her for decades,” Gates’ spokesperson told People.
Gates, 67, and Melinda, 58, announced their divorce in May 2021 — after 34 years together, and 27 years of marriage.
They tied the knot in 1994 and share three children together — two daughters and a son.
Gates and Paula are said to be longtime tennis fans. They are also said to have been seen attending the same tournaments over the years.
Paula is the widow of Mark Hurd, the former Oracle co-CEO, who died of cancer in 2019. She and her late husband share two daughters together.
