Ahead of tonight’s premiere of Big Brother Naija, one of the most asked questions by all and sundry is why the Big Brother house is situated in South Africa.
Africa Magic, the show’s organiser, says the need to put out quality content “whilst meeting timelines/deadlines” is behind the decision to transmit Big Brother Naija to Nigerians from South Africa.
Explaining further on its website, Africa Magic noted that there’s a “fully equipped house with facilities required for a successful show” in South Africa.
“We have a fully equipped house in South Africa which is used for the Big Brother shows. For the Voice, our approach was pretty much the same.
“The venue is already set up with all facilities required for the successful execution of the show; this means that we are able to achieve high production values whilst meeting tight timelines/deadlines and ensuring the show comes to our viewers on time, as planned, and with the same globally renowned quality.
“Whilst the house is based in South Africa, the BBN show is 100% Nigerian, with fully Nigerian housemates and content.”
Africa Magic also noted that Big Brother Naija has been greatly improved since the ten years it last aired on Nigerian television.
“The past 10 years and successes of other Big Brother Africa shows have provided opportunities for improving on the show and now we are ready to give the best version of the show to Nigerians.”
K9, Yemi Alade and Flavour are expected to perform at the opening ceremony of Big Brother Naija.

But they also had Big brother shows for other African countries in the past, I guess Angola and East Africa, and I don’t think it was set up in SA…oh my country Nigeria where is your pride and respect…total sellout. My heart broke when I found out that the Voice Nigeria which I followed passionately was also aired in SA. Hmmm
So sad. This DSTV people are just taking Nigerians for granted. What a flippant excuse! How would Nigeria develop if you keep taking shows to SA. Instead of helping Nigeria a country in recession you are starving it of revenue. Shame on you. Dont worry competition is finally here. You wait and see…Nonsense
I ‘m South African and I agree with you. DSTV don’t about anything else, but profits and more profits.

Not there fault anyway when all our artists will be going to shoot yeye videos in SA. Nigeria Wake UP!!!
Efe all the way
I WAS ASKING MYSELF WHY THIS VENUE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THAT OF SA. it is true why they didn host it at Nigeria for Nigerians also to be able to grow
there must be apathy to this insult.
Nigerians are already in SA, it is an advantage to those who are already this side. Beside SA rocks…
Nigeria should be a state or local government not a nation. we are far behind in Africa.
To my own view i think is right, becouse i did not think there is where in nigeria dat some one will be for almost 11 weeks and dat person will be confortable, south africa is just d best place to be.
Pls where in South Africa is this show aired? There’s an argument between cape town and Jo’burg. Pls help.
