Segun Akinlolu, Nigerian singer and songwriter who is popularly known as Beautiful Nubia, has received an honorary PhD in Arts from the ESEP Le Berger university in Benin Republic.
In a post on his Facebook page, the 48-year-old artiste announced the honorary degree.
“Thanks to the ESEP Le Berger university, Benin Republic for the honorary PhD in Arts award received on Saturday,” he wrote.
The Owuro Lojo singer, who is known for his folklore and traditional style of music, has also indicated his interest in “nation building.”
“I don’t even like the idea of politics. I like the idea of nation building because politics has this negative connotation now, but politics is not supposed to be a negative word and that’s not my thing,” he told TheNation.
“I like to think of myself that if I become a politician I will be a politician that will be seen as a statesman, as a nation builder.
“You will probably see me there in the next elections trying to do something, to be governor of some state or something. I am working on it because I don’t believe in just talking for the sake of talking.”
Beautiful Nubia is currently on a tour of various institutions in Nigeria with ‘The Roots Renaissance’ band.
