Beauty Tukura, the former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, has addressed claims that she was a bully in secondary school.
Earlier this month, an X user simply identified as Ruby accused Beauty of “putting girls through hell” in secondary school.
Ruby said she was “bullied to the extent that I attempted suicide” and that she had to “deal with depression”.
“Beauty Tukura put a lot of girls through hell in secondary school. When she was disqualified from BBNaija, we threw a party,” she wrote on X.
“Do you know how horrible you have to be for people to come together and celebrate your downfall?
“I was battling abuse at home. Then I went to boarding school and had to deal with constantly being bullied.
“I was bullied to the extent that I attempted suicide. Recovered and came back to school, still got picked on for being depressed”.
Reacting in a statement shared via Instagram by the BFA agency, the reality TV star denied Ruby’s claims, adding that she is “against any form of bullying”.
The statement said an investigation was conducted to determine whether Ruby attended the secondary school where Beauty graduated from.
The BFA agency, which serves as Beauty’s management, said it discovered that there was “no record” indicating the X user ever attended the institution.
The agency described the allegations as “malicious, baseless and completely lacking in truth”.
It added that “all possible lawful channels” will be used to rectify the claims “aimed at tarnishing her successful career”.
“On the 11th day of November 2023, a defamatory statement was disseminated on the social media platform “X” by a certain individual named Ruby Deborah Batubo with the handle @aiiy_ bee,” the statement reads in part.
“Wherein she accused our client of allegedly being “a wicked individual” who actively bullied her (Ruby Batubo) while they were in secondary school.
“Additionally, she claimed that this alleged bullying led her to attempt suicide.
“This accusation was profoundly surprising to our client, who maintains a firm stance against any form of bullying.
“Consequently, in addressing the matter, we conducted a thorough investigation and verification with Our Client’s Alma mater, the American University of Nigeria Academy (AUN Academy) Adamawa State, Nigeria.
“To confirm whether or not Ruby Deborah Batubo was indeed a student. Upon conclusion of our investigation, it was discovered that there is no record of Ruby Deborah Batubo ever attending the aforementioned institution.
“Whilst we appreciate and recognise the commitment to oppose bullying and the courage to expose wrongdoers, whether from the past or present.
“It is regrettable that Ruby Deborah Batubo has chosen to engage in defamatory actions against Our Client. This was aimed at tarnishing her well-deserved reputation and successful career.
“We emphasize that these allegations against Our Client are not only malicious but also unequivocally baseless, completely lacking in truth, and, at best, mere products of Ruby Deborah Batubo’s imagination.
“As a law-abiding citizen who believes in due process, we affirm her unwavering commitment to rectifying this egregious situation and seeking due redress through all possible lawful channels.”
