Eedris Abdulkareem, the ace Nigerian rapper, has weighed into the controversies surrounding the recent documentary by the BBC on TB Joshua, the late cleric.

On Monday, the BBC Africa Eye published a three-episode documentary revealing eyewitnesses’ accounts of rape, torture, and forced abortions allegedly committed by the late founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

The cleric died on June 5, 2021 at the age of 57.

In the documentary, some former members of the church claimed TB Joshua raped, tortured, and forced them to carry out abortions inside the church located in the Ikotun area of Lagos state.

The documentary has since generated a heated conversation across social media with users expressing mixed opinions.

Reacting to the documentary in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Abdulkareem called out BBC, arguing that the British public service broadcaster “lacked the justification to condemn any African man” —  a comment that appears to be referencing the report on Joshua.

The rapper said until the broadcasting company puts out documentaries on the “atrocities of Britain in Africa”, it does not have the “right to condemn anyone from the continent”.

“Until BBC releases a documentary on the atrocities committed by Britain on Africa soil, only then will they have the moral justification to condemn any African man,” he wrote.

On Monday, Dare Adejumo, public affairs director of the SCOANs, said the documentary cannot “rubbish the indelible footprints of TB Joshua’s legacies”.

Adejumo described the report as “satanically malicious” and wondered why the wife of TB Joshua did not know about the experiences narrated in the documentary.
