Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, the Nigerian singer fondly called Ayra Starr, says she has prepared her acceptance speech for the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Ayra Starr is among the Nigerian music stars nominated for the prestigious global awards.
In June, the Recording Academy, organisers of the Grammy Awards, included the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for the 2024 edition.
The development makes it the first time in the history of the awards that a category will be specifically dedicated to African music.
Ayra Starr, an award debutant with her 2022 hit single ‘Rush’, is competing alongside Olamide and Asake — among others — for the African category.
Speaking about the upcoming award ceremony on Cool FM, Ayra said she has also “prepared my outfit and practised my walk”.
The songstress revealed that if she wins the award, she plans to eat at a Chinese restaurant and afterwards call her mother.
“There is this Chinese restaurant I would like to go to. I am a foodie. Once I win it, I am just going to eat. I am just going to eat. Sit down well. Breathe in and out and eat. The video call my mum,” she said.
“I have my speech already done. I have everything done. The speech is very long. It is the first African category. It is quite long. I have already done my work, my outfit. I have practised everything already. Even if I do not win this year, I already have the speech next year.”
Starr gained prominence in 2021 after releasing ‘Bloody Samaritan’, a track off her debut album ‘19 & Dangerous’.
In February, the singer revealed how her belief in God uplifted her music career through the Mavin Records deal.
